Moin Moin,
like Heise Online Claris FileMaker Pro will soon be available free of charge for use by individual users. The software will also be renamed from FileMaker Pro to Claris Pro. Another new product is Claris Studio, which can be used to create forms for use on the Internet and much more. After the next major update, there will be the products Claris Pro (formerly FileMaker Pro), Claris Server (formerly FileMaker Server), Claris Studio and Claris Connect, a universal interface to web services of all kinds.
Claris has announced a general price increase of 10% for network use. Anyone planning to purchase FileMaker licenses should therefore do so as soon as possible in order to obtain the old prices.
Update on 10.09.2022
A new video has been published on YouTube about the new Claris products:
Claris FileMaker Product Launch - with Richard Carlton and Rick Kalman
Further details about the product launch are discussed in the video. Apparently, Claris plans to offer the new Claris products in addition to the FileMaker products. The new Claris Pro will be code-identical to FileMaker Pro, but will use a new file format (.claris). Databases in .fmp12 format can be converted to the new file format, but not back. The difference between FileMaker Pro and Claris Pro is that only Claris Pro supports the other new Claris products, FileMaker Pro does not.
- Claris will continue to offer licenses for FileMaker as well as the new Claris products.
- The server for Claris Pro will (initially?) only be available for Linux.
- New file format (.claris) that is only supported by Claris Pro. fmp12 solutions must be converted.
- Otherwise, Claris Pro should be largely code-identical to FileMaker Pro.
- A Claris ID is required to use the new Claris products.
- In the future there will be two new license programs, see file attachment.
Differences between the Claris platform and the FileMaker platform
Update on 20.09.2022
One difference between FileMaker Pro and Claris Pro is that when converting from .fmp12 to the new .claris format, all local user accounts will probably be deleted. This is because a (probably free) Claris account is required to use a Claris Pro database. This will probably also be the reason why a solution converted to the .claris format can no longer be converted back to the .fmp12 format - the user accounts would then simply be missing. Logging in to the database would no longer be possible because FileMaker Pro does not support logging in via Claris ID. Since a database with Claris Pro requires login with a Claris ID, offline solutions are no longer possible with Claris Pro.

How the FileMaker Magazine reportsthe free version of the new Claris platform will be available soon, and Claris offers a registration pagewhere you can register for the free version of the software. As soon as the software is available for download, Claris will inform you accordingly by e-mail. The new Claris platform consists of the components Claris Pro, Claris Studio and Claris Connect. It is not yet known which components can be used to what extent in the free version.

Update: At the end of August, Claris announced that it was largely abandoning the previously planned product strategy for the new "Claris" products. This means that in future there will only be the FileMaker platform again. The new ".claris" file format has also been dropped again - Claris has provided a tool to convert from ".claris" back to the ".fmp12" file format. The products "Claris Pro", "Claris Server" and "Claris Go" have therefore been discontinued and will no longer be offered. As the announced "Freemium" version was based on Claris Pro, it will also no longer be released in this form. Only the two products "Claris Connect" and "Claris Studio" will continue to be offered.
More information on the new Claris product strategy
With the Claris FileMaker Developer Subscription, however, Claris has been offering a developer program for some time now, with which all FileMaker products can be used for test purposes, but not in a productive environment, at a price of currently 105.91 euros per year.
